Can you tell us how making music has had a positive impact on your life?

I was born in Italy. My mother is Spanish and my father American. Neither of them knew how to speak the other's language so they had a language that was a blend of made up words to communicate. When I came into the picture I was a bit of a hot mess and had to take special ed in school to learn to read and speak effectively. I felt a little isolated at times and didn't quite fit in. Music was he one thing I could relate to and understand. Since then it's always been my friend and passion. It's ingrained in me.

What song do you have featured on 'THAT SUMMER by Various Artists'? What is the song about and how do you think it fits into a project about the summer?

My featured song on "THAT SUMMER by Various Artists" is "All I Need" and was written on our European Tour with Delinquent Habits in spring. On one hand the song is about the things I want in life and on the other hand about the things I actually need. The song fits into this project because I also rap and sing about traveling the world, seeing different places and meeting different people, things one normally does in summer when being on vacation. But not just the lyrics, also the beat and the whole vibe of the song reflect these long awaited summer feelings we all know.

There are so many amazing artists on the compilation CD! This project seems to be all about collaboration. Can you talk about a time in your career where you have collaborated with other artists and describe that experience for us?

Yes definitely! Collaborating with other artists is one of my favorite things about being a musician. I've written some of my best songs like "I don't know where I'm going" (which I'm currently recording) with other musicians and playing, jamming with all these amazing people is always fun!  We have a little studio at home and there is always something going on thanks to my dad. I had the honor to work with people like Bruce White, who is one of the busiest viola players in the UK.  He did some magic to two of my songs.  Also on my next project I will be blessed to have experienced players and producers at my side.   I`m really thankful to have all these people around me.

Can you tell us how making music has had a positive impact on your life?

Writing music has given me a really important outlet for expression. It's something I never had before and didn't realize how much I needed it. It's been life changing and influential in ways I can't even describe. The experiences, friendships, wins and losses have been life shaping. I wouldn't change any of it.

Can you talk about a time in your career where you have collaborated with other artists and describe that experience for us?

As an artist, I believe on of the most important things to do is collaborate. Without collaboration, you get narrow-minded and less objective with your creative decisions. That is why it is crucial to always be bringing new people into the creative process. Personally, I have played and co-written with a variety of artists outside of Coastal Club, such as Jane Decker, Moonbeau, Mike Mains and the Branches, and Seabird.

So...looking back, what was the best summer of your life and why?!

The best summer ever was when I was 16 and flew to NYC to work with Jeremy from Kinetics & One Love, along with Dave from The El3ven. They've worked with Meghan Trainor, Melanie Martinez, and a lot of other artists I look up to, so it was really cool to collaborate with them. Our song "Over" is up on my SoundCloud.

What is "Let Me Live" about?

The song is about a man’s relationship with his girl and how he tells her to leave him alone. He will continue to take care of his responsibilities! The young persist on giving him a headache over the situation.

What is "Victorious" about and how do you think it fits into a project about the summer?

'Victorious' is more than just a song, its an anthem that in life you can reach highest peaks with passion, courage and persistence. Life is about being inspired by the good around us, Its about having fun, working hard and being able to reach the stars. People usually say that "you can’t make it to the stars because its too arduous or unrealistic", I say we 'can' and we 'will' and ‘’Victorious’’ exhibits that nothing is unattainable.

Can you tell us a bit about how you wrote "Baby Put A Dress On"?

I just wanted to write something more upbeat and fun- something the band could open up a set with.....The idea of being all charged up to go out and see a band on a Friday night, dancing, jukebox, a few beers- all seemed to fit the vibe of rolling out for a summer night. Initially, I went out and played it solo acoustic a few times, just to put the toe in the water, and it go a great reaction- so I brought it to the band to work up. The did a killer job giving the tune a great vibe and texture-

What is "Burn This House Down" about and how do you think it fits into a project about the summer?

The song is about moving on and starting over fresh after suffering a heartbreaking loss. In this situation, it was the loss of a romantic nature. I believe it fits into this compilation because heartbreak is not seasonal, it happens to us all and it's always relevant. Also, summer gets pretty toasty and nothing says hot like a burning house.

Can you tell us a bit about how you wrote "Red Omen"

Red Omen is an anagram of my own name. As I have the gift of dyslexia I only found it apropos to create a song based on myself, my backstory where I am today and where I could be going in the future. Allegory would dictate that the truth is mingled with fantasy. I am currently talking to the dyslexia society who are helping me cross promote this video. I am hoping it will be wielded as a weapon for a change in education and the way we think about learning in the 21st-century. I wrote the song because I had to. It’s a simple as that

What song do you have featured on 'THAT SUMMER by Various Artists'? What is the song about and how do you think it fits into the compilation project about the summer?

The song I have featured on "That Summer by Various Artists is "The Letting Go". This song is about not caring about what others think and allowing yourself to feel true freedom. It is about letting go of all that does not serve you. Allowing yourself to have love and happiness in your life. I think that during the summer, people love the idea of freedom and Iove and they will be able to relate to its theme.

Nina Amelio

Can you tell us a bit about how you wrote "SavageLove"?

I had some poetry and Lyrics I had for another project. The producer and co writer didn't use them. Once I received a Grant from FACTOR Canada I decided to use them with co - writer Mark Zubek.

The BeeKeepers

What's coming up in the future for The BeeKeepers?

The BeeKeepers want to start producing singles and hopefully a music video. Maybe we can look towards creating a more robust internet presence as well. The ladies and I have been reconfiguring our game plan out to suit our lifestyles and our goals. As for myself, I picked up the mandolin and want to start learning it and incorporating it into new BeeKeepers songs.

The compilation, "THAT SUMMER by Various Artists', is all about songs that have something positive or remind us of Summer in some way. With that in mind, can you tell us how making music has had a positive impact on your life?

As a kid who grew up in some questionable areas, I had a lot of paths I could've gone down. A lot of friends on less noble pursuits. Music gave me a straight road.
