Slighlty Left of Centre

Australian pop/rockers Slighlty Left of Centre present 80’s & 90’s inspired electronic-infused music that is catching fire stateside and abroad. SLC produces, engineers, records and mixes their music to keep their unique and signature sound alive so that fans will always distinguish an SLC song amongst their iTunes playlist. ‘The Right Direction’, the band’s debut album was released in early 2012 with tremendous response from all over the world. With the group’s current Tabletop Records release, “Euphoria”, SLC shows it’s willingness to go all out for fans and do the best by them by providing incredible tunes and a professional, friendly and approachable attitude to them all. If you’re in the mood for something a little different from the norm, check out SLC either through their live shows around the country or download your own copy of their free album from the many internet music and social media sites.

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it. Adam: When I was 13 my older sister told me that some bands are making millions of dollars. This then inspired me to form a hip-hop group with a friend of mine. It went from there, I picked up the guitar and joined a few punk & metal bands before realising I wanted to continue playing in bands for the rest of my life! Mick: My grandfather and I use to write letters back and forth to the man in black himself (Johnny Cash (RIP) before he passed away; such a talented country songwriter that will never be forgotten. Still till this day I feel privileged that I actually had the chance to exchange letters between him and his management. Thanks Mr. Cash for giving me inspiration!

Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career? Our craziest experience yet, is having the opportunity to work with Steven Slate (CEO of Slate Digital). What initially started as us booking him in for a mixing/mastering session, turned out the complete opposite having been offered payment and a global opportunity having our next release 'Naked' featured in an online Audio Legends course (TBA 2017). What has been the high point of your music path? Our social presence has been able to grow greater and greater online. Love The Way You Move was a big release having our first animated music video gain mass attention worldwide. I believe that with current works at the moment and our second animated music video will only continue to grow worldwide. So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? We try to write multiple songs in different styles as we feel it helps us evolve the sound that is Slightly Left of Centre. Call Me for The Weekend is a perfect example of how the track was originally written in a fast-paced rhythm, than later changing into a slower tempo and the lyrics just came about. Sometimes we have moments of completing an entire song within a week, other times it can be frustrating having writers block, but it is what it is. I guess the fact the we create audio/video clips demonstrate SLC's capabilities and if you listen to our first album 'The Right Direction', you will hear the evolution of our sound. What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be? We feel the indie artist(s) today struggle especially with online presence and limitations of being able to play in our home country. Australia isn't the best live scene for gigs, especially Melbourne, with a lot of new developers purchasing heritage areas. All we can suggest, play local shows wherever possible, try to increase popularity online. If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why? Probably Daft Punk, Maroon 5, Train, One Republic or Jamiroqaui... we know the list is long but these artists have influenced our style over the years. It would be an honor to play a live show with any of the bands above. What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show? Generally, when in rehearsal mode we like to self-practice prior meeting up and run through the tracks with a click-track. We also like to prepare for live shows and incorporate covers or medley's showcasing musicianship.

Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it! Probably our upcoming single 'Naked', displaying insane musicianship on a track which is Top 40 commercial yet showcases crazy vocal lines, funky guitar rhythms and tasteful drums and bass.

What's coming up in the future? Naked - Scheduled for release 31st July 2017.Naked - Official Music Video Release - August 2017Linger - Animated Music Video Dec 2017/Jan 2018
