The Shrimps

Hailing from New York, The Shrimps are an acoustic rock duo who thrive on authentic raw rock infused with harmonies. One journalist dubbed them “R.E.M. meets Simon and Garfunkel,” and another said their vibe is what would result “if The Everly Brothers were introduced to punk.” The SHRIMPS’ music has been dubbed “good fare for your ears” and described as “mandolin, harmonies and Beatlesque songwriting.”

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.

Life itself is the catalyst, every square second of it. The SHRIMPS don't live to write, they write to live. Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career? Antique wars. While performing on an open-air stage in Las Vegas, the stage itself was briefly and affectionately occupied by some rather inebriated antique experts (who we later found out were in competition with a rival shop). Goes without saying they loved The SHRIMPS. What has been the high point of your music path? We don't really quantify things in that way. We don't look back. The best is always yet to come . . . you can't really notice “high points” when you're always on a trajectory. So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? We don't go looking for songs, they seem to come looking for us. Three ways: words trigger the tune; tune triggers the words; or, the best of the lot, words and music arriving fully formed at the same time, taking as long as the song takes to perform to write it . . . the best way . . . immaculate conception. What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be? All you need is cash. Permeating a mafia-style playing field with snowballing clout will always require fists of steel.

Take a break and check out their video below:

If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why? The SHRIMPS have been described as John Lennon and George Harrison jamming if the afterlife, so if we all took to the stage together it would quite a quartet. May have to wait for that great big stage in the sky to see that happen, though!

What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show? All rehearsals and shows are recorded, so we can critique and improve . We are brothers, so genetics provides a DNA-style togetherness that others couldn't touch with all the rehearsal in the world. Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it! When you stare life squarely in the eyes, nothing is a challenge to write . . . but if you can sing your song at your father's funeral and keep it together, nothing will ever faze you. What's coming up in the future? More songs , more albums , more shows!

Where can fans find you?
