Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
I have always had a love for music and still do, I used to listen to many bands and being old school read the lyrics of their songs. A big influence was a songwriter and worship leader called Brian Doersksen from Canada I went to a workshop where he was speaking at here in Northern Ireland. I learnt a lot and ordered a song writing dvd of his which was excellent. I had a go at writing a song years ago it wasn't very good. I think the first real song I wrote was a song called The Power of the Cross that was back in 1999.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Ok I maybe have 2 things that happened in my career. In the early nineties I was in a Christian Metal Band and while on stage I was jumping and spinning around. It was in the open air in Dublin Ireland in front of a crowd of people, during my performance I wrapped the microphone lead around my body whilst jumping and spinning and caused myself to fall over. But tried to continue singing. People pointing at me who is this crazy guy? And just recently I was offered a record deal with a Independent owned by a major label and I declined the offer for good reasons, people might think I am crazy but I don't have time to explain it here.
What has been the high point of your music path?
Definitely the high point in my music has been releasing this album Not About Us since its release it has found its way to radio in the US Canada and the UK also some great reviews and doing some Interviews with radio and of course this one. and of course being offered a record deal, to be honest I am amazed I have got as far as I have
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
Sometimes a tune will come to me and I will get the guitar out and play it then sit down and get my Bible out and get inspired, I usually get a bland piece of paper and write my thoughts out. I start with the chorus first then add verses bridges ect later before I know it a song is written. Two the songs from the album He's Alive and the popular opening cut Cry Out were both written in 30 mins.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Indie artists need to have a voice in the music industry and given a fair chance to get exposed, this doesn't happen most radio and media outlets just play mainstream artists who are signed to bigger labels.
In my opinion many indie artists are much better than some of the stuff produced by big labels.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Oh man that's a good question, I love rock music, I am a huge Stryper fan who formed in the early 80's and are still going today that would be one band because they took a huge step and changed basically put Christian Metal on the scene.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Well a lot of times I play solo just me my guitar and microphone, I prepare a week or so before the show and get as much info about the venue I am playing at so I don't forget to bring anything a lot of times I play at Churches and bring my own PA if needed data projector for back drops and words.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
That's an easy one the song would have to be Nothing Compares from my album, I wrote this during a time in my life I was depressed and felt far from everyone including God. The song is very personal to me because of what its about, I would encourage the reader to take a listen.
What's coming up in the future?
Well I am currently doing a lot of interviews at the moment with radio and am promoting my next single from my Album He's Alive a lyric video for the song will be released soon. I am also planning a follow up to this project starting to record later in the year for a 2019 release.
