Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Well, during my time in school I used to spend mostly all day in our music room, singing with my music teacher and a few mates, mostly christian songs. We often used to travel around the city performing in different school and churches. One day when I was solo performing in a church some time around christmas, I felt a deep connection with the beats, rhythm, instruments and the lyrics of the song. Not only i received 2nd position in solo singing that day, I also got an inspiration to write songs of my own, driven from my own feelings and experiences.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
The craziest thing that has ever happened to me is back when I performed at the World Scholars Cup, I think that was my first ever big live performance. It was during the night in an indoor stadium, it was dark but there was a spotlight on the stage, I stepped on the stage while wearing my guitar, I stopped to talk to my drummer and then, I suddenly looked up and even before I started to sing, I heard the audience cheering ardently, I could hear the cheer in a wave from left side of the stadium travelling all the way to the right of the stadium, even though no one there knew me as an artist at the time or even heard of me before but still somehow they all knew I was gonna be good, and I was. It was one hell of a show. That was also one my turning points in my life when I decided that music is what I wanna do.
What has been the high point of your music path?
My actual international progress started last year when I entered the official pop Poland charts and was featured in top 40 indie artist magazine, I received radio plays from the iHeartRadio, received a HMMA and EMA nomination, I performed at the Capitol Pride Concert in Washington DC. I received press reviews from indie and major publications, received radio plays at ''Best Of British'' & Rbeats. Took The Words went trending in China's QQ music, hit 50,000 plays on SoundCloud & spent 2 weeks at Number 1 on ''Rising Artist - Pop Charts'' in US. But the highest point would be early this year when we received a feature from BBC Radio 1 in London and were considered in 60th Grammy Awards for ''Took The Words'' (Under the category of ''Best Pop Duo/Group Performance'') Plan to go a lot higher in 2018, with new records, fans & live tours!
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I usually pickup my guitar, sit near the piano, start the recorder and sing freestyle until a great idea hits me, then I just start writing and to be honest writing a song is like playing a game of chess, once you have a strong opening, just improvise until you have something extraordinary!
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
The biggest challenge according to me is only being able to reach tens of thousands but not tens of millions fans due to limited resources. Honestly, I won't want this industry to change anything, thanks to the social media and the 21st century, one doesn’t really need support of major record labels to get a hit record, your fans can do that for you x
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
I would love to share the stage with Selena Gomez, as I think our record can have a great chemistry. That being said I'd love to collaborate with her sometime in the future. Maybe I'll give her a call lol
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
For my show last year at the Capitol Pride Concert in DC where Miley Cyrus was one of the headliners, I started with basic warmups on my keyboard, followed by my stage rehearsal that could range from 1 to 3 hours, before my show I practice certain types of songs and melody to help me warm up my throat for the performance. I keep a bottle of water to stay hydrated as that is vital aspect. I make sure that I get some rest before the live show to be able to give my best.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
''Tonight In The Mirror'' as I talked about in my interview with 'Please Pass The Indie'', I wrote and composed that record in 1 night, and its truly what I was feeling that night. How I could see my reflection in the mirror and wanted to be that person everyone thought I am but in reality, I’m not, I felt I needed one more chance at everything, a fresh start so I can be that perfect person in the mirror. I was in a vulnerable state at the time which is not like me, but its a good thing at times, as that night I put my feelings to words to make a record like this one. You will hear true heartfelt emotions in ''Tonight In The Mirror''.
