Eva Rhymes, formally known in Chicago and in Baltimore as Jinxxx was born with exceptional musicianship. She is a fusion of Hip-Hop and soul with a growing reputation as bold and beautiful, or as she puts it, "a beast on the mic." Her fans are a growing cult, labeled "weirdoz" and she keeps it real by sending the message that we as people are all flawed, yet extraordinary individuals. Last year, Eva went on her second tour opening for such acts as KRS-ONE, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Aceyalone and A-plus of the Hieroglyphics.
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
When I was young there was a teacher name Mrs. Tucker who told me in 5th grade that my poetry was extraordinary and ahead of its time and I use to sneak to see my oldest brother in the basement rapping and recording on a tape machine, you know one of them old school kind. This fascinated me and I ended up putting together those two experiences. Poetry and Hip-hop became my escape from my environment. I owe it to that teacher and my brother that my interest grew!
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
LOL!! I have an recorded time I fell on stage and almost broke my ankle. I posted the video!! I tried to grab the mic felt a little dizzy and lost my footing . LOL I am not ashamed of the fall. Its actually on my IG right now!
What has been the high point of your music path?
A couple years ago my fan base raised money for me to go to France to one of the biggest music conferences in the world, Midem. It made me feel so good to know people supported me and wanted me to do well. I was doubtful of how many believed in me but with that fundraiser they sent me to France for my music. I am forever thankful for that experience and that moment in my life. I'll never forget

So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
Well i am weird when it comes to this. I can stare into space and zone out and imagine what I want to say. I might come up the melody before the actual words form. I might record the melody on my phone and come back and plug in the words. Sometimes I zone in on the topic i wish to address. See how it affects me or others.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
PROMOTION PROMOTION PROMOTION!! In such a overcrowded industry really good acts can be overshadowed based off the lack of promotion they have. Promotion is sometimes pending on how much money you have. Tho we live in the internet age that promotion plays apart. I wish people saw pass how many followers you have and look at the actual talent.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
THIS IS SUCH A HARD QUESTION!! I love J.Cole, Queen Latifah, Kendrick Lamar, Missy Elliott, BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE, I would die happy opening for Queen Latifah. She is such an inspiration to me.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Rehearsals have been everyday 30 mins to a hour and i just added voice and pitch to my rehearsals. I cant sing but its really good for breath control
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
I wrote this song where i was open about my troubles with mental health and how I use to cut my arms up whenever i felt a way. This was hard to me because I was worried about what people a think of me after they knew this about me. Its called "Dream4U" and its on my upcoming album "Loose Leaf Queen" but the video is out now. The song also talks about our community and how its time to stop the senseless murders. I cousin was killed and a person I know and they were so young. It hurt.
What's coming up in the future?
I have a album that was delayed called "Loose Leaf Queen" ! Its a big deal to me because it shows off my more lyrical side and I also step through doors. I also show a side of me that I have not in awhile. Some of my fan base know me as Jinxxx over Eva Rhymes and they know Jinxxx was the younger more aggressive me so I get to bring that out of me once again. I am also preparing for another tour and hope to return to France
