Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Well, I remember that I was caught up by the rock/metal music since I was a little kid I’ve been hearing bands such as Papa Roach, Korn, Linkin Park, System of a Down and Marilyn Manson sinceI was 6-7 years old. I learned how to play piano, some wind instruments and percussion on my school around that age and that was the first time that I thought that I’ll would be a musician in the future.
Some time later, and because of some life problems, I had to moved from the place I lived and I discovered the Hip-Hop culture too because of my new friends. I started to write my first songs by the age of 12, just for fun, and obviously everything was a piece of shit, but that made me improve with the time.
Years later I had to move again, and I learned how to play guitar and started to create and join bands with new friends. I was into the metalcore / deathcore & post-hardcore scene at that time, around 14 years old, and I created a band called “Burning Paradise” and after we lost our vocalist, I started to learn how to scream and some other vocal skills until I finally became the vocalist of the band. And well, at that time, I told myself that I would take the music seriously as we started to see good receptivity by the audience that we had on the internet and some presentations.
Unfortunately some years later the band died because of some personal problems and I decided to start a new soloist project known today as “ADevil”, mixing everything I learned from the hip hop culture and the metal culture and also trying to give an unique essence on every record.
So, in conclusion the "catalyst" was the music itself, it was always there for me, it was the solution and escape of all my problems and that’s why I loved and love to write music.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Damn!, everything on my music career is crazy as fuck, always. But, one funny and crazy fact that I remember right now was on the recording of the music video “Tell Me”. The video was recorded on an old abandoned hospital of Miami Springs. The vibe on that place was heavy and the models were a little scared because we heard weird voices and noises on some floors and rooms of the hospital while we were recording the video, but well, everything came good at the final and nobody died, as I remember...
What has been the high point of your music path?
That time that me and Eminem were playing the ouija board on Dre’s house. Well, seriously, I'm not sure. I’m grateful for every goal that I achieve in my music career and each of them has the same level of importance for me, even if it's something little.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I don’t think to much about it; I just go ahead and experiment. I try to feel the instrumental first and then I start to write and compose what I feel, simply as that. But a fact it’s that I prefer to be alone when I write a song, not a must, but it’s something that I like.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Well, those are two different questions, similar but different.
First, I think that it’s hard the fact that nowadays if you’re a talented musician or any kind of talented artist and you are not a constant content creator or social media influencer with a lot of followers it’s harder to find more opportunities and credibility on the industry just because they want to see numbers over talent and I think that that’s something unfair, but well, life’s unfair, so you have to move on with it.
And second, I would tell the industry to fuck themself.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
I will tell you two bands and one artist who I would love to share stage and I’ll do someday. First, Avenged Sevenfold, that’s my favorite band from always. Second, Bring Me The Horizon, because I think that they’re the most revolutionary band of this generation and finally Eminem, because it’s Em, you know?
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Well, my rehearsals are full of energy and fun always, it’s like a party you know? And before a live show I always like to share some time with the people that is there, nothing out of world
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
I never had a problem or complication writing any song as ADevil, but some songs have been a challenge at the recording session, one of those was “B*TCH”
What's coming up in the future?
Right now I would like to focus on the new LP “S.O.S”, but well, just to tell you a little more there’s an EP coming really soon too, it’s completely done by now but as i said before, I want to focus on the new album by now before release any EP or new album, so, by now I’ll make new official videos, more merch and shows playing your favorite songs of the LP.
