Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.Let's get this out of the way.
It was while recovering from a serious car accident when I was in my early twenties that I picked up a guitar and began to self teach myself. It pushed my pain away and became the purpose behind my slow recovery.
What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Standing on the back of a truck and performing at a Fireworks show when all the fireworks spontaneously went off, and not many went up ! There were people running everywhere, there was nowhere for me to go so I just kept singing!
What has been the high point of your music path?
I guess many would say hearing your song on the radio for the first time. For me it was receiving an email from someone on the otherside of the world who said listening to one of my songs "Angel" saved her from attempting suicide after her only daughter was tragically murdered.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
Sometimes, I just pick up a guitar and it usually doesn't take long for melodies and words to take over. If I'm not relaxed enough, sometimes I will meditate at night and when I wake up I have this beautiful song swirling around in my head.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Getting recognition in a world controlled by corporate music giants. Still, an MIP told me once that Good music is like cream and will ALWAYS find its way to the to
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Fleetwood Mac and Cold Play. Both Iconic Bands that just simply make good music.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Organized Chaos ! I tend to wing it a bit which is a bit disconcerting but once I'm up there (on stage) its all worthwhile.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
Planet 8. Its hard write a song about an impending Armageddon and then trying to find a vocalist that could accurately portray the emotions and feelings that come with that. It took a long time before I could say that I was happy with the result.
What's coming up in the future?
There are plans for an International Tour and I am excited by that. I am trying to have a break from songwriting but that changes everytime I pick up a guitar, so my wife has locked it away in my bedroom !
