New age/World/EDM/Electronics musician/composer and award-winning Billboard Charting Artist (#1), Art Tawanghar, combines electronic production, live instrumentation, and a variety of wide-ranging cultural influences to craft uniquely relaxing and soul-searching music. Working independently, as well as with the Majorhitrecords label, Tawanghar released his spiritually searching album Soul of the Earth in 2016. The following year, he released Buddha Lounge, an instrumental album that fuses mellow beats and synthesizer tones with meticulously arranged parts for harp, oboe, and other instruments less commonly implemented in electronic production. The album ranked in Billboard's 'Top Independent Albums' chart. Enjoying extensive fan recognition, Art Tawanghar tours to support his releases.
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Music is more than just sound for listening pleasure; it heals your soul and shifts your consciousness to a new realm of belief and enhances how we ( humans ) perceive our 3-dimensional world.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Having my work on Billboard #1 for over 17 weeks was a significant experience.
What has been the high point of your music path?
The high point is having so many fans listen to my music and use these tunes to enhance their daily lives; music is truly a healing mechanism/tool.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I hold no expectation, no force; I see myself as more of a divine printer and I let the energy go through me; later, I observe the outcome.
Let's take a moment to check out one of Art's videos:
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Music is becoming more and more artificial, and I feel we are driving away from it's true essence or true meaning. Here are a few questions to contemplate:
Was music here before us?
Why even music?
What does music do to us ?
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Since we share very similar visions, and almost speak the same music language, my choice would be Anoushka Shankar. What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
I practice 10 hours a day. I truly believe practice makes us masterful and we need to take our live performances very seriously.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
"700' Above" was made using 100% VST ( Virtual instruments ) and computer programming. Achieving a human touch or feeling was a big challenge.
What's coming up in the future?
For the future, I will keep making solid and healthy music that enhances our souls and help us elevate to the next level of consciousness. I hope to do this for future generations as well.
