Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, Bill Abernathy fell in love with music at an early age. During his teenage years, he wrote and played music. Then as a young man, his focus shifted to raising children and providing for his family. Bill’s hiatus from the music ended shortly after his children finished school and, through the release of several hit singles, he has been rising in the Country music scene ever since.
In 2017, Bill Abernathy’s album “Find A Way” reached #5 on the Roots Music Report Traditional Folk Albums chart, spending more than a year on the chart. His single, “Goodbye Will Never Come Again” reached #1 on the Traditional Folk Songs chart. Now, with his latest album, “Crossing Willow Creek” receiving critical praise and his first single, “Cry Wolf” climbing several radio airplay charts, Bill is enjoying the fruits of his late blooming and still very young career.
Bill Abernathy is one of the featured artists on BWH Music Group's upcoming album, Keepin' It Country.
What is the name of the song you have on ‘Keepin’ It Country, Vol. One’? "Can't Go Back "
What is the inspiration behind your song? Or what is your song about?
It is the realization that you really can't re-live the "good old days." Just enjoy the memories and move on.
How did you write your featured song? Or can you describe your songwriting process? This came about around the kitchen table, with a notebook, Randy and I, a few beers, and some guitars.
If you could share the stage with one Country artist, who would it be?! Keith Urban!
Who or what has inspired you the most in your music career? Dan Fogelberg has been a major inspiration.
How did you first get introduced to Country music? Or what made you decide to pursue Country music? I am really a storyteller and use music as how I tell the stories. Country music has always been about real people and real places and the stories that come with it.
Of the songs you have written, which one was the most challenging to write and why? The title song from my Find a Way album is about the day my dad passed away. Remembering that day and the associated emotions, then finding a way to reflect that in a song was challenging. Well worth it, but a quite challenging time for me.
Where do you live and how is the Country music scene there!? I live in Kansas City MO and this is a great music town regardless of genre. If you want to hear some live music you don't have to look far.
So, what’s coming up in the future? Our next project is to answer some questions for our fans by recording "live" in the studio. I always get asked what its like in the studio, what is it like when you play live, and would you all cover a song for us. We are going to answer all those answers by making videos of us playing cover songs in the studio. We are having a lot of fun with it.
Tell us where fans can access your music.
