What is the name of the song you have on ‘Keepin’ It Country, Vol. One’? "I'd Rather Stand Alone"
What is the inspiration behind your song? Or what is your song about? This song is about a gal in a relationship which had come to an unexpected end, whereby she invested a lot of tenderness, patience, passion and understanding. She really felt it was worth going the extra mile. Yet out of the blue, her partner got cold feet and it felt like earth was yanked out from under her feet. Normally a pretty grounded gal, this event, and the connectivity of this particular sojourn, really had her feeling something she had never felt before in a break-up. She would wake up at night and feel the walls closing in, her lungs gasping for air. She felt an immense emptiness where he had been in her life beforehand. And yet, she felt with all her Knowing that, this connection of the heart that they both shared, was even deeper than she was aware of…it was like a Soul Connection. This tearing apart of their two hearts was intense. Yet, she had to let go…as that is what he desired. She heard herself saying, "I'd Rather Stand Alone, My Love, if I can't have you...I'd rather walk alone my Love If I'm not next to you." She wrote the song while tears ran down her face. She knew she had to let go...somehow, long story short, she let go willingly. The added time and space allowed him to reconsider his actions. Eventually he realized that he desired to move ahead into a trusted intimate relationship. It took a big act of inner strength for her to let go and to find enough peace in order to allow the flow of love and trust to return again. And the story was amazing, in that both their hearts embraced again, gracefully and happily.
How did you write your featured song? Or can you describe your songwriting process? I came up with the melody at a cabin in the Northwest. The melody was so moving and yearned of lyrics that had a pioneer feeling...a feeling of a woman who pined for her beloved, not knowing if he would ever return. She was devoted and steadfast in her heart for him, even if that meant that the rest of her life, she would wait...even should he never return.
If you could share the stage with one Country artist, who would it be?! Emmylou Harris
Who are what has inspired you the most I your music career? Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Roseanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Emmylou Harris, Lacy J Dalton
How did you first get introduced to Country music? Or what made you decide to pursue Country music? Spokane Washington is an interesting location whereby it has a lot of country farming mixed with the second largest city in Washington, with pop/rock (stuck in the 80's)Lol. Though my family was pop oriented, I had an 'awakening' in my soul (hard to explain) when I was about 6 years old. My parents had a late nite show on where Johnny Cash was a guest. I recall that I stopped colouring in my book, when I saw this man dressed all in black, his voice sang 'inside' of me...the rest is history
Of the songs you have written, which one was the most challenging to write and why? Loaded Gun and Children of the Sun, both from which are on my 9th album: LIVING LIFE GRAND. Loaded Gun is a 'Me Too' song, whereby I desired to write a song, with a touch of the pioneering west, with a woman, who grew up on the 'rough side of life' meaning she had been sexually/emotionally abused (i left details out- so any could write their own story into the mold) Writing a fiction so that their was enough space for women to fill in their own story, took some crafting. Children of the Sun, is a story of our Native American Indians land was basically stolen, through cruel tactics. The research was gut wrenching. Many tears were shed writing this song.
Where do you live and how is the Country music scene there!? I have lived in Nashville for many years now. It really is MUSIC CITY USA! Just on my block, there are drummers, bass players, artists of multiple genres, engineers and up and coming musicians. I hear the next door neighbours jammin on this and that, and they have surely heard me when the band comes to rehears before shows in Chakra Bleu Central, Lol!
So, what’s coming up in the future? I just released my 9th album: Living Life Grand. So my management team, Next Generation Management / Spin Doctors Music Group, is busy promoting my first single 'I'd Rather Stand Alone' on Country; Americana radio across the USA.
