Elii - 10 Questions Music Interview
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Initially my catalyst was a at risk teen reform school I was sent to as a troubled 16 year old. The guys there taught me to rap and we always would sing songs so it grew from there.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
So I got to perform with Chicago legend payroll at a very small venue. But people matriculated as the performance developed. One person told me after the show that he had to come see what was going on cuase what he heard sounded important. One of my favorite performances with a true legend.
What has been the high point of your music path?
Currently my high point has been finally getting On discover weekly. Thousands of my plays come from there so I’m excited to see where I am a year from seeing how much I will grow number and fan wise.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I try to be in a relaxed setting usually stetting by being inspired by either my music or someone im listening to getting properly motivated. Then I will listen to instrumental untill I start humming melodies then I loosen up my voice and start to plug potential words and pieces of production where they might fit. Edit it over and over and over and simplify it untill it’s in the simplest form that someone can feel.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Prolly being more open to new acts performing at bigger venues. Also giving more radio play to indie artists.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
I would love to perform with kid Laroi, also with bands like kings of Leon and the lumineers.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
I make sure my voice is warmed up I do a pretty consistent vocal warmup every day. I try not to over do it but recently I’ve had a pretty normal routine. I take from the greats.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
All of my songs have been pretty easy to write it’s a natural process form me cause I’m a writer at heart. It try to make it as easy as possible for myself so it’s relatable.
What's coming up in the future?
Bigger venues, features, unlimited ceiling for growth. My goal is to be a household name in pop in the next year. Getting into sync licensing so who knows maybe you will hear one of my songs in a movie or a tv show somewhere done this crazy road.
