Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Since a little kid, I was involved in Praise and Worship in my parents' church back in my country. Songs have been always a great way for me to connect to God . Having my own, has been a blessing to be able to put into melody messages that God has been giving me throughout the years. One thing I should mention is that, after my 1st wife suddenly passed away living me with three little kids, I was so hurt and upset with God. I found healing in writing songs, praising and worshipping God.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Singing a song in English (which I also sing in Spanish) and suddenly switch to Spanish words while singing for English spoken people. Obviously, soon after I realized that, I switched back to English.
What has been the high point of your music path?
After the lost of my 1st wife, I did not want to continue with my ministry. I never denied God but did not want to be involved in Praise and Worship anymore because I was very upset with Him. Retaking my ministry after, was for me a high point of my music path because now when I sing I really know the power behind it. When I minister to someone, I have facts from my own process, when I say God is real is because I know He is real because let me tell you, I tough I was going to either died, had a heart attack or became crazy with that terrible process and looking at me in a mirror today, I can 100% say that I am here because God is God, He exists and He is real.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
Most of my songs normally come in my prayer time, in intimacy with God, in very early morning. Some of them are songs created while in pain for the lost of my 1st wife. It was so painful, the process involved a lot of tears and suffering, crying out to God. The result is just these songs being created.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Lack of support specially in your first year.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
So many, so many. Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Tauren Wells, Israel Houghton, Tasha Cobbs, so many.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Come together, having fun but make it a moment of special praise and worship having God in the midst of us.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
Cristo es Tu nombre (Christ is Your name)
What's coming up in the future?
A tour in California Some special presentations in awards that I have been nominated.
