Groov Marro - 10 Questions Music Interview

Updated: Apr 7, 2021

Groov Marro was raised in the Philadelphia/Norristown area. Some of his musical inspiration from childhood forward range from Ludacris, Jay Z, T.I, Eminem, Mac Miller, Anderson Paak, Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, and Joey Badass. Groov Marro stands out among his peers with a very unique style. Whether it be his unique look, his positive/deep yet clever lyrical ability, or his humble yet cocky personality. One thing is for sure is that he is in a lane of his own. Currently serving his 6th year in the US Army National Guard, he juggles working as an American soldier and perusing his full-time career in music. He has performed on multiple stages for multiple companies such as uptown open-mic, Vibe Star Ent, DJ Dior Cartel's Industry Exposure 2, Original Block Hustlers, SB Entertainment, and Spill Music Group LLC just to name a few. Most notably he has performed alongside Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Juda Priest. As a solo artist, he has put together one mixtape called "The Vibe" and has released multiple songs/music video singles!

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.

Yes. My older brother that goes by the name KAF currently climbing up the ranks in battle rap was the catalyst of me wanting to write music.

Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?

Besides the common occurrence of people going from hating on you to trying to reach out to you for their own personal gain, nothing notably crazy has happened yet...but it's still early.

What has been the high point of your music path?

The high point of my music path so far was my previous music video breaking one million view online thanks to teaming up with Vibestarentertainment Management team.

So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?

I pretty much just write what the beat tells me to write the majority of the time. Sometimes the hook comes first sometimes the verse comes first. There is really no set process i have or am guided by. My most creative times to write music is as soon as i wake up in the morning. At that time lyrics are kinda just spilling out of me.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?

I think the biggest challenge would be trying to get you name out there without tons of money to push you into that spot light. If I could ask the industry to change one thing it would be to help stop new/ up and coming artists from being trapped in terrible record deals.

If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?

Right now there are a few but I would like to share the stage with Joey Bada$$. I just always vibe with all his music sense the first time I heard it. His message and energy are something I always looked up to with music and life.

What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?

I like to rehearse all alone. Being alone gives me the space to do whatever I want without thinking about how I look or sound, I don't like yo messing up in front of people. To prepare for a live show I just rehearse and also I don't eat for a few hours before live performances. I don't know why, it is just something I've done sense my first ever performance.

Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!

I wrote a song called "All Talk" you can still find it on my soundcloud, this was probably the most challenging song for me because I wrote the hook and first verse when I was about 13-14 and never could came up with a good second verse until I was about 24-25.

What's coming up in the future?

As far as right now I plan on taking summer 2021 by storm! Me and my team have been working hard to create this lane and get the recognition we deserve!
