Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Yes and that something was called Nirvana. I was just starting high school when I first heard Nirvana and it changed my life. They were so raw, beautiful, honest, and different from everything going on in music that preceded them. I spent my high school years learning to play music by listening to their songs and figuring them out.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
I'll just say my days growing up in NY playing in bands and partying. I'll leave it at that.
What has been the high point of your music path?
Playing and recording with my sister in law Natalie Mustang from No Filter. They're a big top 40/cover band here in South Florida. I'll be going back into the studio soon to record some new really heavy and catchy tunes with her. I love playing with Natalie.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
All of my songs have just come to me or just happened. I'll spontaneously play a guitar part, then sing nonsense words while creating a melody. The lyrics fit in after the melody is established. After that I'll write the bass line, backing vocals, drums, etc. All the pieces just start fitting together as though I'm putting together a puzzle.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
Jeez, right now? It's the COVID thing. That's pretty much shut down and changed everything. Besides that it's just about getting your name out there and getting exposure. That's why these indie blogs, radio stations, and magazines are so important. Thank you so much for your support!
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Well that would definitely be Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. My second choice would be Layne Staley and Alice in Chains.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Rehearsing with Natalie goes very well and is very enjoyable. We just connect. After rehearsals once it's show time It's on.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
I really can't say that writing any of my songs have been a challenge. Whenever I did come to a road block writing a song, I would put it on the side and not force it. Music happens when it happens and why it's supposed to happen. It's got to be natural.
What's coming up in the future?
I'll be going back into the studio soon to record two really heavy and catchy songs. "Reason for being" is in honor of my friend Chris Beirne who passed away just over a year ago. "Power fetish" is a kick ass heavy tune that I recently finished up. I want to crank it up and show people the other side of me.
Tell us where fans can access your music?
Thank you so much for having me and for your support!!!
