1. What is the name of the song you have featured on ‘That Summer, Volume 2’ - How does your song remind you of summer or how does it fit into a summer album?
"Lettin' Summer Shine" is the name of the song that I have featured on That Summer, Volume 2. It fits into this summer compilation album since it captures the many ways to celebrate summer, whether that's hanging out with family and friends, driving around with the windows down, or chilling at the beach.
2. What is the inspiration behind your song? Or what is your song about?
"Lettin' Summer Shine" was inspired by the fun and freedom of summer. ‘Lettin’ Summer Shine’ is about kickin’ back, havin’ a good ol’ time with friends and family, and soaking up the sunshine! Summer is my favorite season."
3. How did you write your featured song? Or can you describe your songwriting process?
I wrote "Lettin' Summer Shine" with Michael Astrachan using Skype and Google Doc's. I spent that summer in Portland, Maine and Michael was in Kansas City, Missouri. Michael shared the title idea with Olivia and they wrote the melody and lyrics soon after.
4. Of every song you have ever written, what is your favorite and why?
My favorite song I've ever written is "Do You Know?" which will be on my new album out June 14, 2019. It's such an upbeat, happy, positive tune. When I perform, I like to play it last in my set; I call it my love letter to the audience.
5. Who or what has inspired you most in your music career?
Kacey Musgraves has inspired me most in my music career. She is such a talented songwriter and I feel so lucky to have watched her career reach new heights recently with her latest album, "Golden Hour."
6. Tell us where you live and what the music scene is like there?
Although I'm from Cincinnati, OH, I'm currently based in Worcester, MA where I attend Clark University. There is a pretty active music scene in Worcester filled with talented songwriters and musicians alike. At first, it's a little difficult to find the scene, but once you do, it's a great community. I feel grateful to be part of it.
7. Do you have any advice for new independent artists who are just starting out?
Keep practicing. Keep songwriting. Keep learning. Repeat.
8. What are your plans for the summer? Doing anything fun and exciting?
I'm so excited for this summer. I'll be releasing my third, full-length, fully fan-funded, album, "Orchid" on Friday, June 14th. I'll also be on tour, playing 22 shows on my way to Nashville, where I'll be moving to in July. So psyched!
9. What’s coming up in the future?
I'll be releasing a new album, going on tour, and moving to Nashville. I am grateful that I have a lot to look forward to!
