Sarah Christine - 10 Questions Music Interview

Colorado based, with proud Minneapolis roots, Sarah Christine draws influence from pop, indie, folk and electronic sounds to create a unique blend of original songs. With a strong passion for writing, composing, and producing, Sarah creates music you'll find yourself playing on repeat and adding to your playlists. Propelled by an innate desire to base her entire musical adventure and journey on the sole theme of “In It Together”, Sarah promotes following our dreams as a community, and alongside extremely hard work, to achieve goals. Sarah’s core story is one of resliancey, strength, perseverance, and bravery which is heard through so many of her lyrics. Overcoming being hit by a  Ford F-150 truck while walking across a crosswalk, a life changing moment, Sarah continues to move forward.  Sarah was recently acknowledged as one of the most anticipated up and coming singer-songwriters with her 2020 The Let Go Tour.

Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it. I’ve thankfully had a number of people and experiences that have inspired me to begin my music journey. However - there was one big event that really was my wake up call to go for it. I was walking in Indianapolis in the morning (after just grabbing a starbucks) and was crossing a crosswalk when out of no where I was pummeled by a Ford F-150 truck. I was in really bad shape. I was lucky to come out of that accident and it was a true wake up call that in an instant, life can be over, so what are we waiting for?!!! Go for it!!!! Live on purpose and go after your dreams!!!!

Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?

Ha! Good question!!! One that always pops into my mind when asked about the crazy stories (and there have been many (haha) - After unloading my gear after a show in Minneapolis, I was bringing my last piece of equipment out to my car. A guy who had been to multiple shows in the past had been lying under my car waiting for me to get back, popped out (I mean it scared the living becheeeezus out of me - ha!) and long story short the bouncer at the door kindly helped me into my car and escorted him. It was pretty wild.

What has been the high point of your music path?

One high point I’ll always remember was a gal that wrote me after hearing my song, "Enough Like She Was", on Spotify. She told me she was moments away from committing suicide and after hearing that song, she decided not to go through with it. She said it literally saved her life. It brought me to tears and was a good reminder - this is why we need to be putting music into the world, even during these tough times, because for any one person, one listen, could literally help someone! I’m so thankful that she is now thriving and back on a happy path! Go girl!!!!

So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?

Good question! I’m a total weirdo when it comes to writing - I almost do it completely backwards to the traditional methods you’re taught. Hooks are what pop in my head a lot so I’ll have a phrase or a word or something that I feel like is catchy and write that down (I do that constantly). Then before writing more, I go to the piano, or guitar, and get a feel for the sound that feels right. Then I usually start with vs 1 from there. But ya, I usually write all kinds of backwards and round about ways, tinker a lot, hopefully to get it right. I also have a canvas that I sketch all my lyrics on in my studio so the writing is all organic and visible for me to scribble around with. When I’m on the road, it’s notebook after notebook :).

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?

Covid-19 has been obviously the biggest challenge for us all. With cancelled tours, shows, limited capacities, we are all trying to find new creative ways to continue making music and performing. #saveourstages is the most important movement in music right now with so many venues hurting to pull out of this pandemic on top.

If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?

Brandi Carlile - I have been going to shows since they were just getting started and seeing her journey (and the twins) and been incredibly inspiring. I also think everything she stands for in terms of all things equality is so important and critical and it would be an honor to sing next to someone I not only admire from a musical perspective, but for all of her morals as well. Fingers crossed!!! :). Maybe one day, if I’m the luckiest girl in the world, it’ll happen! #manifesting

What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show? Another good question! I like to have my set down really well prior to but also leave some room to ad-lib. I love to interact with the audience so preparing for time to do that authentically is super important to me. So basically I’ll rehearse as many times as I need to to ensure the audience gets a hell of a performance and experience and hopefully leave wanting to come to another show!!

Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it! I just wrote a song for my mom who is battling cancer. It was so personal for me, my family, and for her, I found myself starting over and over just trying to get it just right. I finally asked a good friend in music what he thought, got some tips, then asked the universe to guide me with words, and now it’s finally written. I wanted this one to be perfect, just for you, mom.

What's coming up in the future? Lots!!!! We are gearing up for some awesome news I can share soon! But as far as new music, The Choice, just released and my EP all about these challenging times will get out early Fall! I haven’t named the album yet - if you have any thoughts or ideas, email me at
