Both "Last Call" and "Everybody" showcased SeeMeBeamon's undenialbe talent as a hip hop artist rising in the music industry. Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
My Pops going to prison definitely started my musical journey. When he got locked up everything around me slowly but surely started to fall apart, and music became my outlet!!!
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
I been doing music for years. I stopped writing and recording to focus on the production side of things as far as producing, mixing and mastering. Long story short I produced a record for an Artist out of Florida and a Main Stream artist heard it, and wanted to hop on the record but needed the beat tracked out. For mixing purposes of course. But at the time I was locked up, and by the time I got back to him he said the artist was no longer interested. It was crazy to me because I had only been on the production side of things for about nine months at the time. But I was doing it everyday. That let me know that as long as you keep working and remain focused great opportunities will come!!!
What has been the high point of your music path?
With every release there’s a new experience. So just receiving positive feedback from certain people in the music industry keeps me elevated and moving.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I always start with the beat, because the beat helps me tell the story. Then I’ll freestyle over a beat I like until I have a few catchy lines and a melody. Then I’ll start writing!!!
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
As music and technology grows, the music industry is becoming more and more accessible to independent artists. Indie musicians main argument has always been about not getting played on mainstream radio, in their city or city’s around them. Now there’s a ton of indie radio stations that play indie artists. And a ton of ways to get your music in front of potential fans. It’s always going to be a challenge to convince people that your music matters and it deserve everyone’s time and attention.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Man I have a long list!! But I’ll keep it short. OutKast, J.I.D Westside Boogie Kendrick Lamar. Big energy right!! But acts like those because my music is similar.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Just rehearse my songs over and over from the time I book the show, in the car on the way to the show and before I hit the stage.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
Once I start writing, the words start flowing out. It may take a couple of days or a week for me to finish a song but that’s mainly because I’m my biggest critic and every thing has to make sense. The storyline has to be flawless.
What's coming up in the future?
In 2021 a SeeMeBeamon vlog, a lot of merch, a whole lotta music some of my best music and videos.
