Seth Celdrán - 10 Questions Interview
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.:My grandparents played a big role in me wanting to play music. My grandpa was a great guitar player and he had his old Martin from the 50's out all the time. That made me want to pick up guitar. My grandma was a music teacher her whole life and tried to get my sister and I into piano when we were little. I play piano now, but as a five year old kid, something drew me to the guitar.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
I only started releasing music in January of this year, but to me the craziest thing was the amount of love and support I received. I was always too scared of what people thought to let anyone hear the things I was working on, so to be met with that response was awesome. The fact that anyone cares about my music and what I have to say is so cool to me.
What has been the high point of your music path? Releasing my first songs. I was so anxious about it and built myself up for so long. Then when it was finally out and people liked it, I just felt so relieved and like I could finally be myself.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? I don't normally just sit down and say "I'm gonna write a song now." I usually just get hit with an idea whether I'm in my studio at home or in the car or wherever. All of my songs released so far have been written pretty quickly and just sort of flow.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be? Just getting the time of day. I think a lot of times people hear a song was recorded by a high schooler from West Virginia and immediately dismiss it and think "there's no way that could be good." The truth is that there are SO many undiscovered artists that have just as much talent and passion as the big names in the industry. On top of that, streams are pretty unfair. Making 0.003 cents per stream doesn't pay the bills.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why? In real life I would probably freeze up and have a panic attack but I have daydreams about performing on stage with Paul McCartney all the time. The Beatles are my biggest musical inspiration and Paul 's music has truly made me the person I am today.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show? I haven't played many shows really. Covid is still a thing, but if I'm going to perform it usually consists of me practicing the same line over and over, building myself up right before the performance and then going "well that wasn't so bad."
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it! All of my songs have come pretty easy writing-wise, but "missing" was definitely a long process. It took about a year before I decided no more vocals or instruments needed to be re-recorded and that the mix and everything was good enough.
What's coming up in the future? The 80's really seem to be in right now, and I grew up on all the music from 60's, 70's, and 80's, so I'm personally stoked about it. My music definitely has a vintage sound, so I'm wanting to continue that by doing some more synth-driven, disco type stuff.
