The Songs Of Songwriter Glenn Shayne - 10 Questions Interview
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
I specialize in working with words. I’ve been writing my whole life, it’s a challenge to write a lyric. To make a song that everyone can relate to. I’m serious in what I do. If someone is going to buy a song from me. I want them to have a gift of music for a lifetime. These are not throw-away songs, where you get tired of listening to them. We actually make the songs the old way. We perfect the demo before we do the full production. Then we do the instruments, one instrument at a time. You can hear the quality of the music. By using real instruments throughout the process. The whole purpose is to be successful, not only in your song. But the recording artist who is going to perform the song.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
Winning my first songwriting contest back in 1986. It was the second lyric I have ever written.
What has been the high point of your music path?
Being able to work with a National Recording Artist.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I really don't have a process. I get ideas everywhere. Words and phases just keep coming.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
The pay model with the streaming services. Takes a lot of streams to get any income.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Mick Jagger, cause he's crazy on stage, It would be nuts to be up there with him.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
Sorry, I don't do any live performances. Since I'm just a writer, I have a roster of artists I work with.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
All Tied Up it took me 8 years to get the lyric right. Plus the different titles I had before I finally settled on All Tied Up.
What's coming up in the future?
