Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
Yes, I've mentioned this in many interviews how I got my start in country music. My good buddy Sonny Burgess (CMA) heard me play one day and told me I should start writing songs. Still to this day we collaborate in songwriting.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
The craziest thing that happened to me is when I was invited to play at Bo's Extravaganza. Meeting the cast of Dukes of Hazzard such as John Schneider and Tom Wopat! Performing in front of two of my childhood heroes!
What has been the high point of your music path?
High point of my career was winning an award with PRSA for the song/video, " The House That Love Built." Raising awareness for the Ronald McDonald House.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
I approach songwriting as a way to express in song a life experience. It comes in various forms such as driving down a dirt road. Out by a lake fishing or just randomly at times around town.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
The biggest challenge today for Indie artist is the capital. Most major labels have the resources to spend millions of dollars to sell the product. One thing to change would be share the real estate!
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
If I could share the stage with one artist or band? This is a tough question because their are so many. I would say George Strait!!!
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
I'm always in the mindset of preparing for next performance. Rehearsal is going over each piece of music to make flawless. Also understanding the audience I will be in front of for the event.
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
My song I wrote with Sonny Burgess, "The House That Love Built." Very difficult emotionally because of the nature of the song. Kids and families in need while getting treated at a hospital. We worked hard to get the right message out there.
