Velinski - 10 Questions Music Interview
Velinski is Andrew Williams and Adam McEvoy, a songwriting and production duo hailing from London, UK. Andrew and Adam met at a music studio near Romford a few years ago. “Andrew came in wanting to record a few songs. I liked them and so offered to produce his demos” says Adam. They work with different vocalists and have had success with their recent releases Living The Dream and Celebrity. Velinksi's songs have hit the ground running with widespread rotation on the Music Week Dance and Club charts .
Andrew Williams was interviewed for the 10 Questions below.
Was there something (an experience) or someone in your life that was the "catalyst" for you to start writing music? Tell us about it.
I have always loved the quality of songs and fantastic melodies rather than who the performers were. From an early age I was introduced to classical and stage music. My parents frequently played records by the major classical composers and stage musicals of the 50's and 60's, especially Rogers and Hammerstein.
Let's get this out of the way. What is the CRAZIEST thing that has ever happened to you in your music career?
I worked for a short while at Radio WDRQ in Detroit. Listeners I spoke to couldn't get over my English accent.
What has been the high point of your music path?
We had a Dance track called Freedom in the top 10 of the UK Dance charts and at one point were higher than Madonna.
So, how do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
More often than not the melody comes first. Then I fit in lyrics that will go with it.That takes me a lot longer than writing the tune. The Xmas song was a mixture as I wanted to create a traditional and melodic sound that blends well with the serious message.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Indie Artists today? Or, if you could ask the music industry to change one thing, what would it be?
There is so much talent accessible on the internet but without a strong following or promotion it's difficult to stand out. Social media can be great but it's very fragmented. The whole business model of labels and publishers needs to change to enable talented unsigned artists to earn a living.
If you could share the stage with one other artist or band, who would it be and why?
Styx. I can't think of a better vocalist than Dennis De Young
What are your rehearsals generally like? Or, how do you prepare for a live show?
We are not a live band at the moment but if we have more successful tracks then who knows ? I'd love to perform our song Celebrity at Glastonbury !
Pick one song that was your greatest challenge to write. Tell us about it!
Undoubtedly the Xmas Song. I wanted to say something about not forgetting victims of tragedies such as the London Grenfell Tower fire without making it a sad song but at the same time not making it overtly jolly or Xmassy.
What's coming up in the future? We're working on new material and hope to release these in a few months.
